PLANTING GUIDE:

Start seeds six to eight weeks before the last frost date.
Soak calendula seeds in water for 15 to 20 minutes before sowing.
Sow seeds 1/4" deep in a seed starting potting mix. Press seeds on top of the soil and spread a 1/4″ layer of soil over seeds. Firm gently with your fingers.
Keep the soil moist during the germination. Cover with a layer of plastic wrap and poke enough holes in the wrap for air circulation and evaporation.
Set the tray near a window with a southern exposure, one that receives at least six hours of sun daily. Or set it under a grow or fluorescent light.
Germination will occur in five to 14 days.
Discard the plastic wrap. Remove the weaker seedlings. Rotate the seedlings if necessary so they don’t get leggy trying to reach the light.
Transplant outdoors after last frost - when  seedlings develop their second/true set of leaves.
Can also be directly sown outdoors after the last frost. Grows to maturity in 6-8 weeks after sowing. Prefers light well-drained soil and will tolerate dry conditions.

Seeds are germinating and plants are growing!

They grew fine, they reached about three to four feet, had plenty of nice large blooms and they lasted until this week after the temperature probably dropped below 30F. They made it through 32F when other marigolds died from the cold about a week earlier. They did not require much care or water after they got started. The failure of the first seeding may have been my fault and due to not watering adequately after they were first seeded, but I am not sure of this. I plan to buy them again next year because they did look nice even though they grew taller and larger than I has expected.

Almost all the seeds I planted sprouted. These are big glorious flowers. I still have a lot of seeds left over, the package is very generous. I’m buying this brand next spring!
