Delphinium is a beautiful flowering plant with tall spires of flowers that bloom throughout the summer.
Rocket Larkspur seeds grow into tall, colorful annuals with spiky blue, pink, white, and purple flowers perfect for cutting gardens. Plant in full sun to partial shade with well-drained soil for best results. These easy-to-grow flowers attract pollinators and bloom throughout early summer.
Delphinium 'King Arthur' produces stunning 4-6 foot spikes of deep purple flowers with white centers. This hardy perennial thrives in full sun and rich, well-drained soil, attracting hummingbirds and butterflies. Blooms early to mid-summer and resists deer damage in zones 3-8.
Delphinium 'Blue Spire' grows 3-5 feet tall with striking cobalt-blue double flower spikes and feathery foliage. Perfect for cottage gardens and cut arrangements, this hardy annual prefers full sun and cool, well-drained soil. Note: all parts are toxic if ingested.
Delphinium 'Blue Bird' reaches 4-6 feet with large mid-blue flowers and white centers, blooming early to late summer. This Pacific Giant hybrid thrives in full sun and rich, well-drained soil. Stake plants to support hollow stems, and enjoy pollinator visits and deer resistance. Excellent for cutting.
Delphinium 'Astolat' produces elegant 4-6 foot spikes of satiny lavender-pink flowers with dark centers. This Pacific Giant hybrid excels in back-of-border plantings and as a cut flower, blooming early to mid-summer. Plant in full sun with rich, well-drained soil for optimal growth.
White Delphinium produces 30-40 inch spikes of semi-double to double flowers on fast-growing perennials. Plant in full sun with rich, well-drained soil and provide regular fertilizing and staking to support the dense blooms. Ideal for formal gardens and arrangements.
Delphinium 'Summer Skies' reaches 5-6 feet with massive spikes of light azure-blue flowers and white centers. This hardy Pacific Giant hybrid (zones 3-8) blooms early to mid-summer and suits back-of-border plantings. Grow in full sun with rich, well-drained soil and stake to protect heavy blooms from wind.

SOWING DELPHINIUM SEEDS INDOORS:
- Start seeds indoors 8-10 weeks before last spring frost.
- Sow Delphinium seed in a seed-starting formula. Cover lightly.
- Place tray in a plastic bag in refrigerator for 2 weeks to help germination.
- Then place it in total darkness and maintain the soil temperature at 50-55F (10-12°C) until sprouted. Seeds may have poor germination if the soil temperature is above 55°F (13°C).
- As soon as seedlings emerge, provide plenty of light on a sunny windowsill.
- Delphinium seedlings do not need much fertilizer, feed when they are 3-4 weeks old using a starter solution.
- If you are growing them in small cells, you may need to transplant the seedlings to 3 or 4 inch pots when seedlings have at least 2 pairs of true leaves before transplanting to the garden so they have enough room to develop strong roots.
- Grow the transplants at 55°F (13°C) until ready to plant outside. Larkspur performs best where summers are cool.
- Before planting in the garden, seedling plants need to be “hardened off”. Accustom young plants to outdoor conditions by moving them to a sheltered place outside for a week. Be sure to protect them from wind and hot sun at first. If frost threatens at night, cover or bring containers indoors, then take them out again in the morning. This hardening off process toughens the plant’s cell structure and reduces transplant shock and scalding.
