PRODUCT DETAILS

Gazania Rigens (syn. G. splendens) called treasure flower, is a fast-growing ground cover with a colorful daisy-like flower, native to southern Africa.

While Gazanias are usually grown as an annual, it can be grown as a perennial in warmer areas of the country.

Gazania is an annual grown plant in America, as it often does not survive harsh winters throughout much of the country.

The plant is treated as an annual in northern climates, but it spreads with little help in coastal regions. In mild climates, Gazania propagates through reseeding and clumps.

Gazanias grow best in light, sandy soil that drains well. They tolerate drought but bloom better in slightly moist soil. Gazanias need full sun.

The flowers close at night and during cloudy weather. Most Gazanias have a clumping habit, but some varieties have a trailing habit, making them ideal for containers or sloped surfaces.

HOW TO GROW GAZANIA FROM SEEDS:

Gazania plants are easy to grow from seeds.

✅ Sow seeds directly into your flower garden after all risk of frost has past.
✅ You can also start Gazania indoors, 6 - 8 weeks before the last frost.
✅ Sow seed 1/4 inch deep in seed-starting formula. Firm lightly.
✅ Keep the soil moist until established.
✅ Seedling emerge in 7-14 days at 68-85 °F.
✅ When they emerge put them in a bright space, a sunny windowsill or beneath
fluorescent light on 16 hours/day and off 8 hours at night.
✅ Transplant outdoors when they have two sets of true leaves.
✅ Before planting in the garden, seedling plants need to be “hardened off”. Accustom young plants to outdoor conditions by moving them to a sheltered place outside for a week. Be sure to protect them from wind and hot sun at first. If frost threatens at night bring containers indoors, then take them out again in the morning.
✅ After a few years, the plants may become crowded. Dig up and divide into clumps to re-plant.

The germination rate was probably at about 90% and they grew very quickly. Hopefully I'll get some flowers soon.

These did very well for me. I planted some hydroponically as well as planting some in a pot of soil. They germinated well and already have blooms that are getting ready to open in less than 2 months! Very happy with them
