Cilantro (Coriandrum Sativum) - start this annual herb from seeds. Cilantro is known for its distinct aroma and flavor that is widely used in salsa and other Mexican dishes. Part of the carrot family, Cilantro (Coriandrum Sativum) can be easily grown from seeds, producing flat parsley-like leaves and round seeds.
Sow Cilantro seeds outdoors after the frost season has passed. This herb is not picky about soil, but it thrives in full sun with consistent moisture. For a continuous harvest throughout the season, sow small rows every 2-3 weeks.

Sowing Guide: While coriander grows well in nutrient-rich, well-drained soil and full sun, it is also able to survive in partially shaded areas. For optimal growth, gardeners in warmer climates should plant cilantro coriander seeds between September and February. It can also be planted as soon as possible in the spring, or after the heat of summer passed. Since this herb does not take transplanting well, direct sow the seeds 1/2" deep in rows 18-20" apart; thin the seedlings to 12" apart as soon as they develop leaves. Germination usually takes 2-3 weeks. To ensure a consistent harvest, regularly plant new crops every 2-3 weeks. However, due to its extensive taproot, coriander is not well-suited for containers.
